What happens in a hypnotherapy session?

No hypnosis takes place at these optional sessions which are an ideal first step for those who want to ask questions about how hypnosis can help them meet their goals.

You will not be put under any pressure to begin therapy following a discovery session. However, if we both feel we can work successfully together, we will arrange a time for therapy to begin.

Discovery sessions can be held by Zoom, or in person.

You should allow around 90 minutes for your first appointment. I ask all clients to complete an online form before coming along for their first session, which gives me some basic information about you. When we meet, we can concentrate on exploring the issues you want to address in more detail along with your goals for therapy and the best way to reach them. We’ll also use hypnosis to help you take that first important step to change.

You will be given an audio to use at home between sessions and, depending on why you're undertaking hypnotherapy, there may be some other support tasks to do at home as well.

We'll begin by talking over how things have changed since the last session, set the goals for the session, then continue working in hypnosis.

At each session, there will be a chance for feedback, and to assess how well you are progressing. Most sessions last about an hour.

You do not need to bring anything with you to appointments unless you wear contact lenses. If you can sleep comfortably in your lenses, no problem. If not, it's best to remove them for hypnosis, so bring a container of solution to store them in.

You will feel quite alert enough to drive home or use public transport after the session.

It is not advisable to undergo hypnosis when you are under the influence of alcohol or 'recreational' drugs. You should, of course, continue to take any and all medication prescribed by your doctor.
